(Solved Book Problems) – Problem 14, Chapter- Shear and Bending Moment, SOM by Dr. R. K. Bansal) – A beam of length 10 m is simply supported and carries point loads of 5 kN each at a distance of 3m and 7 m from left support and also a uniformly distributed load of 1 kN/m between the point loads. Draw the S.F. and B.M. diagrams for the beam.

Solution:

End support reactions are: Vertical Reactions, Rl = 7.0 kN, and Rr = 7.0 kN
Moment Reactions are Ml = 0 kNm and Mr = 0 kNm

left shear and moment nodes are : [7. 2.]kN and [ 0. 21.]kNm

udl shear and moment nodes are [2.0]kN and [21.0]kNm

shear and moment nodes are :[-2. -7. 0.]kN, [21. 21. 0.]kNm

Mmax = 23 kN-m at 5m from either ends.
